"I recently went through a search for a Controller in our organization. I had started out using some of the traditional search firms, but I wasn't getting any candidates that met my needs. While I gave a very clear description of what I was looking for, I kept getting candidates that really didn't meet my criteria, and I felt like I was just getting any warm body they could come up with. I turned to Smith James Group, and we began the process by going over a thorough description of what I was looking for. Then we developed a list of questions for the candidates to fill out to ensure we were looking at the right candidates. After Smith James would do a thorough screening of the candidates, I would get a report of their findings for each person they talked to. We would discuss the candidates, and we would determine if it made sense for me to phone interview the candidate or have the person come in for a personal interview. We narrowed our search to two candidates, and we went through a detailed process of discussing and evaluating the candidates.
